Run for Joy

So this is going to be my “If I can do it, anyone can!” spiel. It will be short.   As I said, this is not an attempt to push anyone into running.  But if I can inspire someone to start something that they’re hesitant or unsure about, then that’s all the better.
Medical experts are constantly reminding us how important it is to move our bodies.  It’s good for both our physical and mental health. I know, you’re thinking, when am I going to have the time?  You just have to make it- for yourself and those that love you the most.  And it may sound cliche, but truly, if I can do this anyone can.  I’m the least athletic and coordinated person I know.  In elementary school I had to take special gym.  Yes, that was a real thing and it was exactly how it sounds.  So truly, I have no business doing anything athletic.  It doesn’t have to be running or anything traditionally “sporty”.   Take a walk with the kids, fit in yoga before breakfast, do sit ups in the break room.  If you’re already mentally nixing these suggestions then find something.  Something that makes you feel like when you were a kid coasting down a steep hill on your bike.  So maybe biking is it, or swimming, or roller skating.  Still not piquing your interest?   You’d be surprised at how many unusual and interesting activities there are for adults!  There’s jollyball, bathtubing, bed racing, and even naked rugby.  If you are interested in learning more (naked rugby got your attention, didn’t it?)  then visit this website: http://www.topendsports.com/sport/unusual/list.html

Maybe I’ll explore some of these in an upcoming episode.  But for now, all I’m trying to say is that life can be so demanding and distracting that we forget to look for happiness.  If you find something that you truly enjoy, it won’t feel like an obligation and it will be a heck of a lot easier to find the time for it.
